Two Honored by NOW for Work on Cold Rape Cases

Deanne Gerdes, executive director of the Rape Crisis Volunteers of Cumberland County, and Lt. John Somerindyke, commander of the Cold Case Sexual Unit in the Fayetteville Police Department, were honored by the National Organization for Women for their efforts to ensure all rape kits in North Carolina cases are tested.

A huge fundraising and campaign kick-off event was held in honor of Fayetteville attorney Billy Richardson, candidate for NC Senate, District 19 on Monday evening, June 9, 2014.
 
Nearly 300 people, including special honored guest, former governor Jim Hunt, and hosted by Minority Leader Senator Dan Blue and former Senator Tony Rand, attended a summertime gala that could be called as much "fun-raiser" as fundraiser.
