Two Honored by NOW for Work on Cold Rape Cases
Deanne Gerdes, executive director of the Rape Crisis Volunteers of Cumberland County, and Lt. John Somerindyke, commander of the Cold Case Sexual Unit in the Fayetteville Police Department, were honored by the National Organization for Women for their efforts to ensure all rape kits in North Carolina cases are tested. Gerdes and Somerindyke approached Rep. Billy Richardson for assistance in getting legislation passed to address the testing backlog. That legislation went into effect in June 2017.
